Usually I don’t post anything, but this time I decided to make a huge post about my new workshop organization.
This workspace was especially made for my needs. I’m not really organized, though my baby girl made me clean my space more often. Before she was born I got this very long table and several cheap storage cabinets from IKEA:
I was quite happy with them, but they were too deep, and most of the space was a waste. I needed shallow drawers, lots of compartments, something for rulers, something for router bits and sanding paper. Finally, some ad video from Poland inspired me – it was about a workspace for the guys who make dioramas, not entirely my interest, some modules very definitely not for me, so I decided to make my own 3d model of what I wanted. I went through lots of woodworking magazines and Pinterest boards and came up with several ideas. Because my baby girl refuses to just sit and watch how her Mom is modelling things on computer I asked my husband to do that for me. I was a chief editor 🙂 correcting mistakes and making suggestion on sizes. And it was a good thing to ask my husband as he decided to go for size XXXL – huuge amount of drawers, everything you needed for miniature making. Personally, I’d start with three modules and see where it’d go, would I need them or not. But I’m happy now about the result, hubby was right – dream big!
I also had this shelf for chisels and screwdrivers, it’s half empty now:
The size XXXL is fantastic, but when somebody laser cuts it for you and GLUES it too. When all you have is three bags of plastic and MDF, and you need to glue it all, and with acrylic parts – you need to peel off transparent tape (from both sides!) – it’s a nightmare. I took me two days to finish the preparations, then several days – gluing all the drawers.
But it’s done now! So, what do I have now? This wonderful sanding paper organizer:
The upper shelf is used for working drawings and several sheets of veneer I need for the project.
Then these wonderful compartments where you can hold anything, hardware, router bits, Swarovski beads, EVERYTHING:
Corner shelves are my favorite – Proxxon sander and drill found their place there, no cords, plain simple.
Then these storage units for bits and files and chisels:
Pfeil, Two Cherries and Narex chisels – all in order:
Trays – very useful for storing lego parts, rulers and old chisels I don’t use often.
Scalpels storage – very cool!

As for the technical part – MDF 4mm sheets were used, the storage units were made of 3mm and 1mm acrylic. Acrylic parts made the whole thing more expensive but you can try MDF or even cardboard, it will be much cheaper.
