Victorian Style
Or read this in Russian
I would never consider myself as a huge fan of Victorian style, probably because I haven’t seen the examples that would look just right for me. And this time I think I’ve found some. One of my latest commissions:
I’ve found the original on one of British antiques sites and fell in love with it, it was dark blue armchair. So I transformed into the whole set. Materials are pearwood, cotton and silk, and huge amount of time of course.
To make the frames for the sofa and chairs was not that hard, except multiple carved details, I had to redesign the sides once, as they were not deep enough. But it was a good step forward for me with carving. With practice things are getting better and better.
Surprisingly for me, upholstering was the easiest part, cotton is very fine, so it wasn’t tricky to shape it well. I decorated with a silk braid. Since I started practicing bobbin lace, it was just the right moment to make the braid with bobbins. Looks very good to me.
And finally, tea table. Very typical design, this time I used mahogany, I just love the color and shades of it on table top. The diameter is just about 4cm, and it’s 8cm high.
It was really inspiring process for me, started thinking of English roombox, with all those architectural carved details, fireplace, chairs, etc. Hope to make it one day.
