Adams style table

on May 7, 2019 in WIP

I’m a fan of on of the books on European furniture, almost every piece there is on my to-do list. This table happened to be the first one I actually made.
A bit of process below, I made several carved elements, all of them gone to my “virtual” trash bin. I wanted the carving to be more expressive.

A Bookcase in eclectic style.

on May 7, 2019 in Uncategorized

This bookcase was commissioned in the end of 2018. I found the reference drawing of it in one of Russian books on furniture history. I always wanted to make something in this style, these moldings were one of the reasons. I used to hate making them, but it was years ago. Now it seemed like a very easy operation. It’s always interesting to see how my feelings on different techniques changed over the time.

French commodes. Part 2

on May 7, 2019 in Uncategorized

I wrote about these commodes many months ago, I was hoping to be able to update my blog very often, but some commissions happened plus I was very busy for my Chicago show, so it’s my first time when I can finally get back to my blog.

These two commodes are, of course, are done. They went to Tom Bishop Chicago International show, one of them came back to Moscow.

Louis XV small commode – WIP

on May 10, 2018 in Uncategorized

Recently I started working on a commode I wanted to make for quite some time. I’m getting to the phase of my dream projects! First, Studley workbench, then Galle vitrine, and now this commode. I’m happy to be able to make things I wanted to make eight years ago when I started building miniature furniture. It’s a huge step for me, so I’m very excited.

I’ll be making two commodes. The first one is partially ready for assembling and making drawers.

Morris Chairs Upholstery

on May 10, 2018 in Uncategorized

I made these chairs quite some time ago, but I managed to make upholstery only now. I was searching for the right piece of fabric at the local stores, but found what I needed in this wonderful UK based store – https://www.mariasfabrics.com/ I was blown away by the amount of gorgeous fabrics, so I bought a lot!

Knife Hinges in Miniature

Swipe!👉👉👉 So I'm only done with making hinges, lol. I was going to install them tonight too, but I just ran out of time. Anyways, as I said many times before, I'm not comfortable with metalworking. It's something I don't really like and understand but I need everytime I make some advanced piece of furniture. So I always tell to myself that I like it 😂 Oh yes, Victoria, you like it, that's why you have this Sherline lathe, lol, that's why you want to buy a Sherline mill but never have enough money for that! 😂😂😂 So two days ago I tried to make these hinges, they were too thin and fragile, and I didn't have a 0.45 mm drill bit. So I changed my plan this time. Thicker brass sheet, bigger diameter for the brass rod – 0.8mm one. I used my coordinate table that comes with the mill to cut out the outline of the hinges, then I cut them with my jeweller's saw and shaped them with files. Drilled the holes, the rest is obvious. They both look okay now, I'll see how they will work when I install them tomorrow. Wish me luck!
