The Hall – beginning
Or read this in Russian
Yesterday I started gluing and cutting everything for the hall in my dollhouse. I couldn’t decide about wallpapers so I printed several just to see what was best. I wanted something soft-colored, smooth. Eventually, I decided on these ones, my husband thinks it’s too simple looking, cannot agree with him.
I’ve found the pattern in one of the William Morris’ albums, it was printed on the paper with the texture of a canvas. Looks beautiful, unfortunately I couldn’t catch it on camera. The ceiling is not white, it’s more almond color. As far as I remember from art nouveau books, artists preferred this color (well, basically any color would do except white). The mouldings were made of oak and covered with shellac.
So the plan for this room is pretty simple:
- Lighting
- The main door and its decoration, and also decoration for the second door that leads to the dining room
- The rest of the mouldings (plinth)
- Stairs, I actually built it, but I don’t really like it and plan to rebuild it from scratch.
I also have the problem with the choice of wood. The moulding was made of oak (light color), the door is made of mahogany (red color), and the stairs pretty close to the oak in color. And I’m a bit confused – if I make oak stairs I think I’ll have to make the main door and moulding in oak too. But it will look strange if the dining room and it’s frame are made of contrast color woods. So I’m thinking of making everything in mahogany again.
