Wardrobe shelf

on February 10, 2015 in Furniture, Tools and Equipment, WIP

Today was about making a shelf. I needed to bend veneer sheets for it. But first I made some sort of pattern. I took quite thick piece of beech scrap wood and cut the same pattern several times, then I glued all the parts together.

Wardrobe – moldings and frame

on February 9, 2015 in Furniture, WIP

There was a lot of work recently, I’m still enjoying the process of building my new art nouveau wardrobe. Lots of things were changed since the last version of it, this time I decided not to use veneered wood, this time the pear was stained, it has a very deep color of purple heart wood.  Just like the original piece. The only drawback is that becayse it’s very dark every touch with my fingers left these sawdust spots. Anyway, there’s nothing I can do till the finishing process.

Books and dvds on bobbin lace in miniature

on January 26, 2015 in Lace

I promised to one of my Russian speaking readers to write this post about lacemaking in miniature. I have a special tag for it on my site, so you can check the previous posts. And here I decided to show you my favourite books and DVDs that helped me a lot.

I started with Russian tape lace, I bought several pairs of Russian bobbins and some books. The process was quite easy until I had to make some stitches that turned to be difficult to make when all you had was a vague description in a book. I went on Youtube and found out that all the good videos were in English and Spanish! 🙂 This was the moment when I decided to start with Torchon lace. Besides I bought two wonderful books by Roz Snowden about lace in miniature and most of the items were made in Torchon.

French day bed

Well, it’s done! I wish I could make more, but the thing is I’m out of time and need to make other items too. I finished this day bed long-long time ago but the textile part took a lot of time, because I was sewing it while my daughter was sleeping 🙂 Then I ordered a cat and a dog…

These holidays were too long! I missed my tools and tablesaw:) Before them (damn, it was last year!) I started remaking marquetry wardrobe, which I didn’t even finish. I managed to cut side parts, today was a  lathe day!

Here’s the old version of the wardrobe:

Petit point for pillow

on January 14, 2015 in Miniature Needlepoint

My current petit point project – miniature pillow.  This time it is 49 count silk gauze. I was going to use it for a bed, but I changed the colors so I’ll have to use it for something else.

New Year holidays

on January 12, 2015 in Lace

We had very long holidays – almost 12 days! I had so many plans – to make new table for my Proxxon table saw, then making jigs for it, even my husband was going to help me with my kid, but here we are. Monday!

I’m afraid this year I won’t be very productive with furniture, actuallly… we’ll see, but I’m preparing for the worse scenario, while hoping that it’s going to be just fine.

Anyway, I’ll show you something from the last year!

It’s 3mm wide bobbin lace edging – I’m pretty happy with the result, especially with new entomology pins, they are so thin, that I realised I needed thinner cotton thread for this edging.

I already used this edging for two pillows, here is one WIP.

Gaspar Homart masterpieces.

on December 30, 2014 in History, Worth Seeing

I’m reorganizing my boards on Pinterest – mostly the ones with art nouveau style furniture and such. So I have decided to make special board on Gaspar Homar. I recently copied his music stand and art nouveau sofa.

Gaspar Homar was born in Spain in 1870 and died in 1953. 82 years, huh? Not bad at all. I found his biography only in Spanish ( and my Spanish sucks to be honest) but I managed to find out that not only he was a fantastic cabinetmaker but he also was into mosaics and house decoration, lighting etc.

Here is on of such houses, all the furniture is now in the museum in Catalonia:
