Roubo workbench, part 2.
In the first post I showed how I made the legs and the top. I’ll leave the vises for the assembly part. And now, I’m making shelves, there are two of them. The upper one is quite thing, made of a single sheet. I’m making a frame for it out of steamed pear wood, just for fun.
At first, shelf itself.
Then the frame. On the photo you can see how I’m making a mortise.
Spice Chest
I didn’t expect it to finish so early! Less than a month, my personal record with the kid at home 🙂
The only thing I regret – I didn’t take any photos of WIP, when I was making drawers and legs. Making legs was fun! I bought a duplicator sometime ago, and I was really into trying it, because I heard rave reviews about it. But I didn’t have a chance because I was moving to the new apartment then I was busy with customizing my table saw… Then I had no time to install this damn duplicator, I have only forty to sixty minutes a day to work on minis, sooo… I did it the old way, with chisels and hands 🙂 But, it turned out quite good.
Art Deco Tables
Well, it’s been a while since my last update on these tables. They’re done now!
The first one is with straw marquetry top, the table itself is made of walnut.
Маркетри. Из соломы.
That awkward moment when you think you almost everything about marquetry and here it is! Something new! Several months ago I was re-watching Cartier collection videos on Youtube with marquetry process and mosaics and somehow I came across another collection – with straw marquetry. I heard only about Chinese tradition of straw pictures before, but this time it was miniature version! And I really wanted to try it.
Majorelle armoire cabinet! Done, done, done!
I’m super happy that it’s finally finished, because I’m a bit tired of all these butterflies and leaves and curves, and want to move to something simple again. It was quite a job, but I managed to make it quite good. Overall, it was fun! I still need to make the inner frame for the central door to cover the “glass”, but it won’t take long.
First marquetry panel
I didn’t expect that just one panel would take so long. But considering the fact that I have only 3 hours a day (except weekend), it’s not surprising. The new panel is on the left, the old one is on the right. IMO, the new one looks much better. I changed the veneer background, color of mother of pearl, etc. And overall, I see slight improvements in my skill level.
Next week I’ll start the next panel.
Wardrobe – moldings and frame
There was a lot of work recently, I’m still enjoying the process of building my new art nouveau wardrobe. Lots of things were changed since the last version of it, this time I decided not to use veneered wood, this time the pear was stained, it has a very deep color of purple heart wood. Just like the original piece. The only drawback is that becayse it’s very dark every touch with my fingers left these sawdust spots. Anyway, there’s nothing I can do till the finishing process.
French chic
Well, it’s done! I wish I could make more, but the thing is I’m out of time and need to make other items too. I finished this day bed long-long time ago but the textile part took a lot of time, because I was sewing it while my daughter was sleeping 🙂 Then I ordered a cat and a dog…

Music Stand
I almost finished the new item, I only need to make doors with marquetry, but this is the good part 🙂 This stand is very similar to the wardrobe I started making last year but didn’t finish. And the designer of this item is the same as with art nouveau sofa I made quite some time ago.
Carving, lots of it!
Wow, I thought it would be much more difficult to make it work! This settee is quite a challenge. The back is very interesting, so I had to figure out the workflow for it. Despite using 3d software I still needed to rely on my own measuring skills.
Now the fun part began – carving, lots and lots of it! I “finished” 2 parts, another 2 on the way. I hope that the next week will be all about upholstery, fingers crossed!
